What is raw Chocolate?
Raw chocolate is a superfood which comes from cacao beans, just like most chocolate, the difference between them is that to make raw chocolate the cacao beans are left outside to dry naturally instead of being roasted thus preserving nutrients such as iron, zinc, magnesium, copper and vitamin C. It also contains high level of antioxidants, tastes more natural & better than roasted chocolate.
Health benefits of Raw Chocolate
In it's raw state, cacao beans ( chocolate) has around 300 nutritional compounds some of which include:
Magnesium, and other essential minerals such as calcium, sulfur, zinc, iron, copper, potassium, and manganese
Polyphenols, antioxidant rich flavonoids
Vitamins: B1, B2, B3, B5, B9, C, E
Essential heart-healthy fat: oleic acid a monounsaturated fat
Just like most raw food, raw chocolate helps with physical & mental wellbeing. It lowers blood pressure and improves circulation, can promote cardiovascular functions & improve digestion.
The name superfood has been given to it mainly due to its high level of antioxidants which is said to double that of red wine or triple that of green tea. Antioxidants are important as they stop the chain reactions of oxidants damaging cells.
